Driver Training

Image 1
D5379 at Northampton Far Cotton 6.4.62 running round its train. The train didn't normally venture this far - it must have been 'passing out' day with a Locomotive Inspector aboard and more drivers than usual to be examined.

Image 2
D5379 at Turvey the same day.

Image 3
D5381 in multiple with D5383 at Desborough & Rothwell 2.5.62 with the 1200 Nottingham - St Pancras. By this time the use of ECS for driver training was frowned upon and where possible normal trains were used, providing a 'spare' loco for use! This train ran down from London via Corby and Melton Mowbray, thus avoiding coupling and uncoupling en-route ie a round trip.

Image 4
D1684 at Didcot preparing to leave on a driver training special to Westbury. IX50 denotes a 'special'.

Image 5
D1684 waits on the Up Through line at Newbury the same day. It would return to Didcot via Reading.

Image 6
D1708 waiting for the road in Ruscombe Down loop between Maidenhead and Twyford 1.2.64. Note the 'Special' Reporting number 'IZ51'.

Image 7
Brush 5539 (note she has lost the D prefix) waits at Lavington on a return driver training special from Westbury.
